- Indications for Use.
Should be used for treatment of lungs cancer, ootecoma and herminogene seminima, adrenal cortex cancer, acute monoblastic leukemia, urinary bladder cancer, leukemia of myelogenous, Kaposi’s sarcoma, lymphogranulomatosis, cancer of stomach, Non Hodgkin Lymphom, neuroblastoma, chorionepithelioma.
- Action
Etoposide works by delaying the synthesis of DNA and also by suppressing the development of cells of tumor.
- Posology and Administration
The administration of the medication and doses should be defined, depending on the regimen of current chemotherapy. For intravenous administration the drug should be used drip-fee by dissolving it in 0.9% NaCl solution for 30-60 minutes. The medication should be taken in the following doses: 1 – 100mg per sq.m per day from first to fifth day of treatment with repetition of cycles once in 3-4 weeks; 2 – 100-125mg per sq.m for first, third and firth days with repetition of courses once in 3 weeks; 3 – 50mg per sq.m for oral intake once a day for 3 weeks with repetition of cycles once in 4 weeks, or 100-200mg per sq.m, which should be taken for 5 days at three week interval. Only when the peripheral blood factors have been normalized, it is allowed to carry our refresher courses of therapy. Before using the medication intravenously it should be dissolved in 0.9% solution of 250ml of NaCl or in dextrose with 5% solution until the concentration of the medication dissolves to 0.2-0.4mg per ml. It is not allowed to contact pH of more than 8 buffered water solution.
- Counterindications
Failure of liver or kidney, hypersensitivity, bad distress of formation of cerebral blood, acute infections of virus, bacterial and fungal nature (including chicken pox and herpes).
Epilepsy, alcoholism, childhood age below 2 years, due to the fact that efficiency and safety of use of the medication for treatment of children has not been determined yet.

The medication should be taken with caution for treatment of patients with arrhythmia, as well as for patients who have failure of liver or kidney (correction of dose is necessary, as well as regular control of functioning of kidney).

Side effects on blood forming organs: fall of the number of granulocytes and leukocytes varying depending on the dose used for injection. It can be used as the major toxic evidence that confines the dose.
Side effects on digestive system: vomiting, nausea, moreover there are noticed diarrhea, stomatitis, abdominal pains, gullet inflammation, gorge, inflammatory processes in the mouth cavity, gullet, anorexia, larynx.
Side effects on cardio-vascular system: temporary lowering of arterial tension.
Reactions of allergies: tachycardia, chilly sensation, panting of low arterial tension, bronchial spasm.
Side effects on skin integument: inversive baldness, sometimes it results in hair loss. Rare: itching, pigmentation, radiation dermatitis.
Other side effects: rare – increased fatigability, drowsiness, after-taste in mouth, cough caused by disorder of lungs, peeling, malign exudative erythema (Stevens-Johnson syndrome), optic neuritis, muscle convulsion, amaurosis fugax of cortical genesis, often nocturnal urination, metabolic acidosis.

The medication is not recommended for use in the period of lactation and pregnancy.
