- Indications for Use.
Is used for treatment of inflammatory-infectious illnesses, caused bybacteria, which are sensitive to the medication:
– tonsillitis;
– pharingitis;
– sinusitis;
– chronic and acute bronchitis;
– urinary tract infections of uncomplicated form;
– otitis media;
– urinary tract and womb neck infections of gonococcal character.
- Action
The medication is an antibiotic, which has a pluripotential action. Cefixime works bacteriostatically. The medication is effective for treatment of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
- Posology and Administration
Administration and doses should be selected on an individual basis, depending on stage, form and diagnosis of illness.
The medication is made for oral intake. The average dose for treatment of adult patients and children of age above 12 years and with weight og body above 50kg, should receive treatment with 400mg dose taken one time a day or with 200mg dose, which should be taken 2 times a day. Children, whose mass of body is lower than 50kg should receive treatment with dose of 3-9mg per 1 kilo of weight with possibility of increasing the dose to 12mg per 1 kilo. Adult patients should take the medication 2 times a day, children should be treated 2-3 times per day. The course of treatment can be from one week to 10 days long. It is recommended to use suspension for treatment of children under the age of 12. The dose for suspension should be 8mg per 1 kilo, taken one time a day, or 4mg per 1 kilo taken two times a day. For children of age 5-11 use 6-10ml of suspension, 2-4 years – 5ml, 6 months to 1 year – 2.5-4ml.

Side effects on urogenital system: vaginitis. Side effects on urine system: compromised functioning of kidneys. Side effects on intestinal system: vomiting, nausea, stomatitis, pain in stomach, and diarrhea, constipation, yellow sickness, dysbacteriosis.
Other side effects: compromised formation of blood, labored breathing, changes in composition of blood.
- Pregnancy and Lactation
Cefixime can be applied for treatment during pregnancy only if the expected positive outcome for mother exceeds the potential harm of fetus.
If it is necessary to use Cefixime in the period of lactation, then a decision should be made about cancellation of breast-feeding.
